SIOUX FALLS, S.D.-- Entering their last home weekend of the season, the Augustana Volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-22) to Upper Iowa. The loss drops Augustana to 10-15 (5-12 NSIC) on the year and brings Upper Iowa to 17-8 (10-7 NSIC).
The first set found the Vikings and Peacocks deadlocked early. The Peacocks found a slight edge when they took a lead of 13-11 resulting in an Augustana timeout. An ace from
Courtney Place put the Vikings within one late at 21-20, but Upper Iowa finished strong to take the first set, 25-21.
The Vikings looked to rally with the Peacocks in set two, but the visitors got out to a 15-9 lead, forcing Augustana to call a timeout. The Vikings went back and forth with the Peacocks, but the visitors ended up taking the set on a Vikings error.
In set three Augustana came out swinging and jumped out to an early 8-4 lead. Upper Iowa responded to take the lead, but a kill from
Izzy Sommers put the Vikings within one at a score of 18-17. However, the Peacocks outlasted the Vikings to win the third and final set, 25-21.
The Vikings return to the Elmen Center on Saturday for senior day at 2 p.m. vs the Warriors of Winona State.
