SIOUX FALLS, S.D-- Head coach
Lindsie Micko announced Monday that Augustana Swimming has signed three swimmers for the 2019-20 season. The swimmers signed include Hannah Lambert, Hailey Handevidt, and Chrislin Nieuwoudt.
Chrislin Nieuwoudt hails from Johannesburg, South Africa where she attended the Holy Rosary School for girls. At Augustana, Niewoundt will swim the backstroke, freestyle, butterfly.
Nieuwoundt is a decorated swimmer in South Africa winning the Provincial Scroll for Swimming twice and Full Colours for Swimming two times as well. Nieuwoundt was a three-time participant in the South African Long and Short Course Championships.
"I am so happy to announce Chrislin's signing with our program," Micko said. "She comes to us from South Africa and I am looking forward to seeing her progress within our program. She will immediately be able to help us in spring backstroke, butterfly and freestyle events."
Nieuwoundt plans to be a Premed major with a biology minor and hopes to become a doctor.
Hannah Lambert is a Fresno, California native. Lambert attended Clovis West High School where she was a three-year letter winner. For the Vikings, Lambert will swim primarily distance and add to Augustana's continuously improving program.
While attending Lambert helped Clovis West maintain their impressive reputation, this past year winning the CIF section for a 23rd consecutive year. In 2016-2017 Lambert's medley relay was up for All American consideration.
"Hannah is our first swimmer from California," Micko said. "She had the most unique visit to Augustana, but from the beginning, I knew she would be a great fit. Hannah comes from a great club program and will bolster our already strong distance program."
Lambert plans to be a Pre-med and biology major with chemistry minor. After graduation Lambert hopes to become a Dermatologist.
Hailey Handevidt is a local product from Jackson, Minn. where she attended Jackson County Central. While she did not have a swimming program available to her in high school Handevidt's hard work and passion for the sport kept her pursuing her goal of swimming in college. At Augustana, Handevidt will swim the freestyle and butterfly.
"Hailey comes to us from Jackson, Minnesota" Micko said. "She has a very unique swimming situation in that her hometown does not have a swimming program so her commitment to the sport is amazing and I look forward to seeing her improve here at Augustana. She is a natural fit for Augustana and she will make great strides throughout her 4 years."
Handevidt plans to major in history and minor psychology and coaching. After graduation hopes to become a history educator and coach.
