ST. JOSEPH, MO -- In the first day of the Missouri Western duals, the Augustana women's tennis team split the day, dropping their first match 5-4 to Newman, before picking up their first win in 2018 with a 5-1 victory over Missouri Western State.

In singles competition,
Kornelia Staniszewska, the NSIC preseason player of the year, defeated Janneke de Rijk 6-0, 6-1 (4-7.)
Grace Goble, a freshman from Rapid City, S.D., picked up a win over Liza Gerasimova 6-1, 6-3. The Vikings final win in singles competition came via
Taylor Jackson's 6-0, 7-5 victory over Kateryna Stoianova.
The only victory Augie captured in doubles play was when
Berkley Darr and Staniszewska defeated Emily Young and de Rijk 8-5.

In doubles play, Darr and Staniszewska defeated Sofia Aguilera and Bojana Vuksan 8-1 in the first match. The pair of redshirt freshman
Anca Rusu, a Baia Mare, Romania native and Coastal Carolina transfer, and
Kaitlyn Schultz defeated Federica Salmaso and Katherine Yeacker 8-0 at No. 3 doubles, giving Augustana a 2-1 lead after doubles play.
In singles competition, Staniszewska defeated Vuksan (6-0,6-0) in No. 1 singles, Annika Teska defeated Salmaso (6-1,6-1) at No. 5 singles and Schultz clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Emilee Dent.
Augustana returns to action Saturday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. when they take on Truman State
