SIOUX FALLS – Another blast of winter weather put Wednesday's doubleheader with Southwest Minnesota State in doubt, but a couple of warm, sunny days allowed Bowden Field to dry enough for the Vikings and Mustangs to start the twinbill at 3 p.m.
Augustana's schedule this week also includes home doubleheaders against MSU Moorhead on Saturday and Northern State on Sunday, but wet weather moving in could force some changes to those games, so stay with GoAugie.com for the latest updates.
The Vikings enter Wednesday's games with a 26-8 overall record and an 8-2 mark in the NSIC after splitting a pair of doubleheaders last weekend in Minot, N.D., with all four games being played in the Air-Supported Dome on the Minot State campus.
Southwest Minnesota State comes to Sioux Falls with a 10-17 overall record, a 5-7 mark in the NSIC and riding a two-game losing streak after dropping both games in a doubleheader at Northern State on Saturday, falling 6-0 and 8-2.
The Saturday sweep snapped a four-game winning streak, as the Mustangs started the week with 8-2 and 6-5 wins at Concordia-St. Paul on Thursday, and 8-1 and 9-2 wins over MSU Moorhead in the Presentation College Dome in Aberdeen, S.D., on Friday.
Should the weather hold off, the Vikings take on MSU Moorhead on Saturday at 12 p.m. The Dragons, who play at Minot State on Thursday, entered the week with a 9-17 overall record, and a 2-6 mark in conference play, with the lone wins coming in a split with Minnesota Crookston on March 30, and a split with Bemidji State on March 31, all in Aberdeen, S.D.
The Sunday schedule pits the Vikings against Northern State, which started the week with a 17-13 overall record, and a 7-3 record in NSIC play. The Wolves split home doubleheaders with Bemidji State on March 30, and Sioux Falls on April 6, with a split at St. Cloud on April 4 in-between.
The Wolves host U-Mary on Wednesday, and then play at Wayne State on Saturday, weather permitting.
Following this week's action, the Vikings hit the road for a Tuesday doubleheader at Winona State on Tuesday, April 17, and then return home to host Bemidji State on Saturday, April 21, and Minnesota Crookston on Sunday, April 22.
