TAHLEQUAH, OKLA. -- An historic season that included winning their ninth consecutive regular season NSIC championship and their eighth consecutive NSIC tournament championship, the 2017-18 Augustana women's tennis season comes to a close after the Vikings dropped a 5-3 match to Oklahoma Baptist Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament from the NSU Tennis Courts on the campus of Northeastern State University.
The Vikings dropped two of three doubles matches. Junior
Kornelia Staniszewska and Senior
Berkley Darr defeated Kateryna Shkot and Kim Moosbacher 9-7 to pick up their 23rd doubles victory of the year. Sophomore
Taylor Jackson and senior
Kaitlyn Schultz fell 8-4 to Madeleine Boepple and Tahlia Walsh while
Grace Goble and
Anca Rusu dropped their doubles match 9-8.
Darr fell to Moosbacher 3-6, 1-6 at No. 2 singles in the first singles match to finish. In the second singles match to finish,
Anca Rusu defeated Caroline Abbe, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 singles. The win gave Rusu her eighth singles victory of the season.
Annika Teske lost 3-6, 4-6 at No. 5 singles to Madeleine Boepple. Staniszewska, ranked 15th nationally in singles play, remained undefeated and improved to 18-0 on the season with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Shkot at No. 1 singles. Tahlia Walsh earned the victory over Jackson 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
The Vikings legendary season comes to a close at 21-4 overall.
