Women’s Golf Locks in No. 1 Seed at NCAA Central Super Region Championship

INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA Central Super Region Championship field has been announced and the Augustana women's golf team secured the No. 1 seed and is making their 11th straight trip to the NCAA tournament.

The NCAA Central Super Regional tournament, hosted by Lindenwood University, takes place at the Missouri Bluffs Golf Club in St. Charles, Mo. on Monday May 7-9.

Seniors Emily Israelson, Sierra Langlie, Kali Trautman, sophomore Hannah Hankinson and freshman Alex Stone are the five Viking golfers that will participate in the NCAA Central Super Regional.

Augie enters the NCAA tournament coming off its ninth straight NSIC championship, shooting 18-over (306) on the final day and finished the tournament 62-over (926). Israelson, a Staples, Minn. native became Augustana's seventh consecutive individual medalist last weekend, winning the NSIC tournament shooting 12-over (228).

Trautman, a Clear Lake, S.D. native, and Stone, a freshman from Crosslake, Minn. along with Israelson earned NSIC All-Tournament team honors for placing in the top-five at the championship. Both Trautman and Stone finished tied for fourth while Langlie finished in a tie for ninth and Hankinson finished in 14th place.

During the 2017-18 regular season, Augustana won four tournament titles and finished second place in two more.

The Central Region is made up of teams from the NSIC, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association and the Great American Conference.

Joining the Vikings in the Central Super Region Championship is Arkansas Tech, Southwestern Oklahoma State, Henderson State, Northeastern State, Central Oklahoma, Lindenwood (MO), Missouri Western, Central Missouri, Minnesota State Mankato, Oklahoma Baptist and Nebraska-Kearney.

The six individuals are Helle Leed (Southern Arkansas), Hannah Perkins (Fort Hays State), Sophie Hill (Concordia-St. Paul), Lexi Hanson (Sioux Falls), Frida Ryberg (Arkansas-Monticello) and Ashley Bixby (Southwest Minnesota State).

Augie has won five region titles since 2010 and won three straight NCAA region championships from 2009-10 to 2011-12 and finished second in region play last season. Langlie shot 11-over-par (224) and tied for second overall in 2017. Augustana has finished second or better at the region championship eight times since 2007-08.

The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from each super regional will advance to the championships, while are held May 16-19 at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas.
