BURNSVILLE, Minn. – The Northern Sun announced the presentation of the fifth annual Butch Raymond Scholarship, sponsored by Sanford Health, on Thursday, and a pair of Augustana student-athletes made the list.
Both
Kornelia Staniszewska from the women's tennis team and
Bailey Neises from the wrestling squad earned the honor for the 2018-19 academic season.
"Congratulations to the student-athletes who have dedicated themselves to excellence in the classroom and in competition," said Sanford Health President and CEO Kelby Krabbenhoft. "Sanford Health is honored to invest in the next-generation of health care professionals through the Butch Raymond Scholarship. Butch's service to the NSIC always prioritized the student-athlete experience, and it's fitting his name be attached to this scholarship."
A highly-decorated athlete on the court and native of Opalenie, Poland, Staniszewska maintains a 3.45 GPA as an exercise science and fitness management major.
An exercise science-athletic training major from Howard, S.D., Neises earned multiple academic awards with a 3.61 GPA, while wrestling at 157 pounds for the Vikings.
For over a decade, he led the NSIC from an eight-team league to a 16-team super-conference. During his tenure, the league won team national championships, while achieving a high level of academic success.
The scholarship goes to one or two student-athletes at each of the 16 NSIC institutions. A eligible recipient must be a senior academically in 2018-19, maintain a GPA of 3.20 or higher, participate in intercollegiate athletics and plan to work in a health related field or attend graduate school in a health related field. The NSIC plans to publicly recognize each student-athlete at a home event during the 2018-19 academic year.
