IRVING, Texas -- Six members from the Augustana Football team have been selected to the Hampshire Honor Society by the National Football Foundation and the College Football Hall of Fame.
Trevor DeSchepper,
Matt Fujinami,
Zac Johnson,
Sam Lee,
Nate Merriman and
Caden Quintanilla received the recognition, which means they each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers.
"We are pleased to see another record number of athletes honored by the Hampshire Honor Society this year," President and CEO Steve Hatchell of the National Football Foundation said. "Over the past decade, it has become a powerful vehicle for schools to recognize their college football players who have distinguished themselves both academically and athletically, and we congratulate the schools and each of these young men for their commitment to excellence in all aspects of their lives."
In order to be nominated to receive membership to the honor society, student-athletes must have completed their final year of playing eligibility in 2017, achieved a 3.2 cumulative GPA throughout their entire coursework of undergraduate study, met all NCAA mandated progress toward degree requirements and have been starters or significant contributors throughout the 2017 season.
"I'm proud of these young men for representing Augustana Football with excellence on the field and in the classroom," head coach
Jerry Olszewski said. "This is an impressive accomplishment for an impressive group of young men."
