SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- With the 2018 soccer season started and games fast approaching, to kick off the season we will be introducing the ten incoming freshman for the Augustana soccer team.
Today we will be featuring
Jena Mitchell. Mitchell is a native of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and a graduate from Washington High School. She played club soccer for Dakota Alliance and will play defender at Augustana.
Let's get to know more about Mitchell both on and off the field:
How and when did you start playing soccer?
My mom put me in as many sports as she could starting at the age of 4, but I joined competitive soccer when I was 12 years old.
What made you choose Augustana University?
Augustana gave me a sense of home when I toured. I knew that the people, the athletics, and the academics at Augustana are amazing.
What is your planned area of study while attending Augustana University?
I plan to study Biology and Chemistry and minor in Spanish.
When you are not playing soccer, what are some of your hobbies?
When I'm not playing soccer, I love to be outside (preferably hiking).
Who is your athletic role model?
My athletic role model is my dad.
What is your favorite pregame meal?
Chicken With broccoli (an important vegetable).
What is your best soccer memory up to this point in your career?
Winning the Club Cup when I was 16 and watching my coach at the time almost cry.
What do you like best about soccer?
I love the team work and the commitment. It takes a lot of strength mentally and physically to play soccer at an upper level. The fact that this sport makes me stronger while I get to see the people I'm close to is what I love about soccer.
What are you most looking forward to as an Augie soccer player?
I'm am looking forward to being very very very fit soccer player. I am also looking forward to making a new family and growing even older with people I have known most of my life.
