MANKATO, MINN. -- The Augustana track & field teams took to the road this weekend to compete in the Mark Schuck Multi & Open hosted by Minnesota State. Numerous Vikings put together impressive performances in the two-day showcase, with a number of student-athletes putting up personal and season bests.
Friday's events in Mankato for the Viking women were headlined with a winning effort from
Olivia Montez Brown, who took first place in the Pentathlon. The junior from the United Kingdom put together a 3,690 point performance in the event, finishing no lower than second place in any of the five events. Montez Brown's point total is currently the fourth-highest in the nation for DII.
The Viking men were highlighted on Friday by
Matt Pohlmann and
Matt Ambrose in the pole vault. Pohlmann placed second clearing a height of 4.43m (14 foot 6.25 inches), while Ambrose put up a personal best with a height of 3.98m (13 foot 0.75 inches), which was good for a seventh-place finish in the event.
In Saturday's competition, the Viking women put together a strong performance in running events.
Mackenzie Kelly led the way in the Mile run, while five other Augustana runners would finish in the top-10 of the event.
Selin Dikmen was able to put up a personal best in the 60m Dash of 7.94 seconds in addition to a season-best time and second-place finish in the 60m Hurdles (9.11 seconds).
In the 800m, Augustana took away five of the top eight positions, with
Kali Ryan leading the way with a second-place finish at a time of 2:17.45.
Carly Rahn and
Avery Selberg were not far behind, as they finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Over in the field events,
Lily Noble led the way for the Vikings, tying for first in the pole vault, clearing 3.27m (10 foot 8.75 inches).
Kendra Ludeman grabbed second place in the high jump, as the freshman leaped a height of 1.62m (5 foot 3.75 inches). Over in the sand pits,
Coley Stoller took third in the triple jump, going a distance of 11.23m (36 foot 10.25 inches).
For the Augustana men, Saturday proved to show positive results, with several individuals placing in their events and setting personal bests. In the heptathlon,
Tyl Woelber finished in third place with 4,846 points. The point total achieved a provisional qualifying mark, while also ranking among the top 25 in the country for DII.
Paul Meloche would notch a season-best time in the 60m Hurdles at 8.27 seconds while finishing third place in the event.
Josh Schumacher, Meloche,
Josh Barrows, and
Noah Melton placed third in the 4x400m relay, running a time of 3:27.19. In field events, the Vikings continued success in the high jump with
Eli Anderson clearing 1.94m (6 foot 4.25 inches) and placing third.
The Mile run proved once again to be successful for the Viking men, with a quartet of Augustana runners finishing within the top-10.
Jesus Urtusuastegui,
Aaron Runge,
Skylar DeJong, and
Evan Johnson finished in sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth in the event, with Urtusuastegui, Runge, and Johnson each setting personal best times.
Augustana track & field returns to action next Saturday when they return to Mankato for the second-to-last time of the indoor season.
