Vikings Track & Field Head to Ted Nelson Classic

Augustana returns to Mankato for third time

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- For the final time in the indoor regular season, the Augustana track and field team will be traveling to Mankato, Minn. on Saturday to compete in the Ted Nelson Classic. The day's events will begin at 11:00 a.m.

 

The Vikings are returning to Minnesota State after last week's Mark Schuck Open & Multi where the Augustana women placed third with 93 points and the men took seventh, putting up 53 points.

 

Augustana's women began last weekend on a high note, with Olivia Montez Brown winning the Pentathlon and putting up an NCAA provisional qualifying 3,690 points. Montez Brown's Friday point total is the fourth-best in Division II.

 

The Vikings continued success into Saturday, with Mackenzie Kelly winning the Mile at a team season-best 5:07.87, followed by five other Augustana runners finishing in the top 10 (Leah Seivert, Rebekah Rairdon, Mariah Haight, Haylee Waterfall, and Cait Savey). Selin Dikmen took second place in the 60m Hurdles, while Kali Ryan grabbed a second place finish in the 800m.

 

In field events, Lily Noble tied for first in the pole vault, matching a season-best mark of 3.27m (10 foot 8.75 inches). Kendra Ludeman grabbed second place in the high jump at a height of 1.62m (5 foot 3.75 inches). In the sand pits, Coley Shield took third in the triple jump, going a distance of 11.23m (36 foot 10.25 inches).

 

The Augustana men saw success last weekend as well in the multi-event, with Tyl Woelber posting an NCAA provisional qualifying 4,846 points. Woelber's point total is in the top 25 for Division II.

 

In running events, the Vikings were highlighted by a season-best time and third-place finish in the 60m Hurdles for Paul Meloche (8.27 seconds). Josh Schumacher, Meloche, Josh Barrows, and Noah Melton placed third in the 4x400m relay, running a time of 3:27.19.

 

Field events for the Augustana men showed positive results with Matt Pohlmann placing second in the pole vault at a height of 4.43m (14 foot 6.25 inches) and Eli Anderson taking second in the high jump with a personal best mark of 1.94m (6 foot 4.25 inches).

 

Following the Ted Nelson Classic, the Vikings will take another trip to Brookings, S.D. to compete in the SDSU Indoor Classic on February 8-9.
