SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana men's and women's tennis teams are set to head to the ITA Regionals in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on Thursday and will conclude on Sunday. Central Oklahoma will be the host school for the tournament.
The Tournament
The ITA Regional Championships feature some of the top men's and women's players across the country. Over 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete across 85 ITA Regional Championships around the country.
The Vikings
The Viking women clinched their 10th-straight NSIC regular-season title and ninth-straight NSIC tournament title last season. Augustana also has a 110-straight conference win streak on the line headed into this season. Augustana is coming off hosting the Augustana Invite where several Viking athletes won their flight or the consolation.
On the men's side, Augustana will start off their 2019 season at the ITA Regionals after its match against Morningside was canceled due to weather.
The Vikings return all but two players from last year's team that finished 9-10 and add five new players this season. Last season the Vikings went 53-58 in singles action and 30-24 in doubles action.
Quotable
"We are excited to compete in the ITA tournament," head coach Marc Kurtz said. "The tournament is the highlight of our fall and we are ready to get going against the other teams in our region."
