Soccer Gears Up For Last Road Weekend

The Vikings carry an eight-game win streak to Minnesota this weekend

10/23/2019 9:27:00 AM

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana women's soccer team (11-1-1) hits the road this weekend for contests against the Golden Eagles of Minnesota Crookston (0-10-0) on Friday at 3 p.m. and the Beavers of Bemidji State (8-4-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Games
The Vikings head into Friday's match with an eight-game win streak and an 11-game unbeaten streak. While Augustana battles Minnesota Crookston on Friday, Bemidji State will be facing off against the Wildcats of Wayne Sate in Bemidji, Minnesota.

The Golden Eagles
The Golden Eagles come into their matchup with Augustana at 0-10-0 after falling to Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul last weekend. Minnesota Crookston is 0-9 in NSIC play and 0-4 at home. Junior Maggie Peterson leads the Golden Eagles with one goal and three points on the season. Junior goalkeeper Athena Done DiMario has started seven of the ten games in goal for Minnesota Crookston.

The Beavers
The Beavers come into their matchup with Augustana at 8-4-1 after falling to Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul last weekend. Bemidji State is 7-2-1 in NSIC play and 5-0-0 at home. Sophomore Sara Wendt leads the Beavers with seven goals and 15 points on the season. Goalkeepers Alyssa Stumbaugh and Emma Riedi have played almost equal minutes for the Beavers and have combined to post four shutouts this season. Bemidji State, the defending NSIC Champions, is currently the fourth seed in the NSIC and will be the highest seeded team that the Vikings have faced.

The Vikings
Augustana is 14-2-2 in the all-time series with Minnesota Crookston and 7-6-4 in the all-time series with Bemidji State. Augustana is currently on a four-game win streak against the Golden Eagles and enjoyed their largest margin of victory against them last season, 7-0. The Vikings have won five of their last eight matchups with the Beavers and have not conceded a loss to them since the 2012 season.

The Vikings have not moved from the first-place spot in the NSIC standings all season, but hold a narrow two-point lead over second place Concordia-St. Paul. With Bemidji State losing both of its contests last weekend, Augustana and Concordia-St. Paul are the only remaining undefeated teams in NSIC play.

Augustana has been getting it done on both sides of the ball, especially of late. While its shutout streak ended at 749:43 minutes of game time, the Viking defense has allowed just one goal in its last nine contests. Sophomore goalkeeper Claudia Pueschner, senior defender Morgan Moe, and sophomore defender Savannah Ellender anchor the defense as they lead the team in minutes played.

Offensively, the Vikings almost doubled their offensive production this season in the last four games. Of their 28 goals, 26 assists, and 82 points on the season, 13 goals, 12 assists, and 38 points were tallied against their last four opponents.

Senior forwards Claire Dahm and Grace Behm have lead the offensive charge for the Vikings. Dahm has scored five goals in four games to propel her into a tie for second place for the team lead in goals. Behm scored two goals and tallied five points last Sunday against MSU Moorhead and now leads the team in goals, points, shots, shots on goal, and game-winning goals.

If the Vikings continue their offensive and defensive prowess, Morstad Field could play host to multiple NSIC Tournament games this November.

One Last Thing
Of the 1,198 minutes that the Vikings have played this season, they have trailed in just 115:49 of those.
