SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – During its Viking Days football game against St. Cloud State University on Oct. 12, Augustana Athletics will add a beer garden for the annual homecoming festivities.
 
The alcohol sales, which will include beer and wine, will be guided by a policy designed to promote responsible consumption and a safe and enjoyable environment for all fans. Only those 21-and-over, with a valid ID, will be allowed in the beer garden. Trained servers from JJ's Wine, Spirits and Cigars will serve the alcohol.  
 
"Augustana Athletics is excited to provide a new amenity to our fans for our homecoming game," said Josh Morton, director of athletics. "We are always looking for ways to improve our gameday atmosphere, and we think this is something that will provide a unique experience to Augustana football.
 
The garden will be in the southwest corner of the stadium, with an ID and wristband station at the platform by section 101. After entering the garden, guests will purchase beer tickets, where they can redeem up to two at a time. The beer must stay within the garden area, which has a platform overlooking Jim Heinitz Field inside the stadium. The beer garden is a one-time offering on Oct. 12 and will not be available during other home football games during the 2019 season.
 
Morton adds, "A lot of thought and planning went into the development of adding a beer garden for Viking Days– we want to ensure a safe and responsible atmosphere. I am grateful to all those within the Augustana University campus community and other partners who helped coordinate efforts and make this a reality."
 
Gates to the stadium open at 11:30 a.m., with beer sales following at noon. The serving area will close at the conclusion of the third quarter.

Augustana Athletics Alcohol Sales Policy for Viking Days Football Game:

• All guests must be 21 years of age and show a valid ID to obtain a wristband and entrance into the beer garden
• A valid wristband is required at the time of purchase for tickets and redemption of beer
• A limit of two beers may be purchased at one time
• Sales will begin at noon
• Sales will end when the game clock has expired at the conclusion of the third quarter
• Guests are not allowed to bring alcohol into Kirkeby-Over Stadium or allowed to exit the beer garden with any alcohol
• Augustana Athletics reserves the right to search guests for alcoholic beverages as well as the right to refuse service of alcohol at its discretion.
• Guests are not allowed to give alcohol to other guests under the age of 21
• Failure to adhere to these policy guidelines may result in ejection from the stadium without refund
