Viking Tennis Finish Up Play at ITA Regionals

EDMOND, Okla. -- The Augustana men's and women's tennis teams played its final tournament of the fall season when they competed at the ITA Regionals hosted by Central Oklahoma over the weekend. 
 
Women

With over 100 student-athletes competing at the ITA Regionals the Augustana women's tennis team competed strongly. Of those strong performances, Grace Goble earned a spot in the semifinals after picking up three wins in the flight 'B' singles. In the semifinals, Goble faced off against Madison Lysaught from Washburn, unfortunately, that would be where Goble's day would end as she lost by default.

Over in flight 'A' singles, Laura Arce Vieyra defeated Nicole Donnelly (MWSU) 6-1, 5-3 before falling to Tania Teruel (NMWSU) 6-1,6-3. Aleksandra Kistanova defeated Vera Carvalho (NSU) 6-4, 6-4 before losing to Logan Morrissey (Washburn) while Emily Granson defeated Diana Budnik 6-2, 6-2. Granson lost to Tatjana Stoll (NSU) the next round to end her day. 

Anca Rusu picked up two wins in Oklahoma after defeating India Shiaelis (SOSU) 6-4, 7-5 and Nikki Boyar (UCO). Rusu fought hard but lost to Maria Valverde (Washburn) 6-2, 6-3. 

In doubles action, Rusu and Kistanova paired up and Vieyra and Granson teamed up in the women's 'A' doubles flight. Vieyra/Granson took the first match against Young/Bifano (Newman) 9-8 before falling to Shiaelis/Sergeev (SOSU) 8-4 the next round. Rusu/Kistanova fell in the first round to Neil/Hunter (UNK) 8-3. 

Men
Tyson Cowger took on Tobias Fuerschuss (Ouachita) in the back draw 'A' flight. He would advance to the next round to face Daci but would fall 8-2. Eden Mrozek's match against Bellen resulted in a retirement that sent Mrozek to the next round. He faced Brill in the second round where he would fall 8-4. 

In doubles action, Logan Barr/Cade Damgaard defeated Galdi/Suiama (OBU) 8-6 in the first round which set them up to face Vuckovic/Roberts in the second round. Unfortunately, that would be where the day ended for Barr/Damgaard as they lost 8-5.

Up Next
The Vikings will now look toward the spring season after completing their fall season this past weekend.
