Augie Swim Breaks Eight School Records at the Augustana Invite

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana swim team finished the Augustana Invitational with eight new school records over the three days at the Midco Aquatic Center. The Vikings finished fourth in the women's team rankings with 894 points. 

Starting off on Thursday, senior Destini Oehlertz swam a time of 23.07 in the 50 freestyle to break the school record and place first. Oehlertz broke her second school record of the Augustana Invite when she swam a time of 51.16 in the 100-yard freestyle. Senior Emma Miller also broke a school record with her third-place finish in the 500-yard free and a time of 4:59.52. 

In the 100-yard breaststroke prelims, junior Micah Hudlet swam a new school record time of 1:05.06 and placed seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke finals with a time of 1:05.37. Hudlet also secured a new school record in the 100 IM with a time of 59.90 and a fifth-place finish. The new record holder in the 200-yard breaststroke also belongs to Hudlet after she swam a time of 2:22.85 to place third behind South Dakota State and Sioux Falls. 

Freshman Cailey Scott etched her name into the record books with a time of 2:04.86 in the 200-yard backstroke and placed third. Miller took home third place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:59.52 while the 800-yard freestyle relay 'A' team placed third with a time of 7:40.07. 

Junior Taylor Beagle earned bronze honors with a time of 4:32.37 in the 400-yard IM while two other Vikings placed in the top-10 of the 400-yard IM. Oehlertz continued to dominate placing third with a time of 57.24 in the 100-yard backstroke placing third. 

Finishing things out was the 400-yard freestyle relay 'A' team. They placed fourth with a new school record time of 3:30.39. The team consisted of Kamryn Robarge, Linzie Kreizel, Miller and Oehlertz.

The Vikings will host Southwest Minnesota State in the next calendar year on Saturday, January 11, at 3 p.m. inside the Elmen Center before closing out the regular season at Nebraska-Kearney on January 25.
