Augustana Swimming Takes First at Morningside Invite

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The Augustana swimming team took first place at the 10-team Morningside Invite with a score of 751 on Saturday in Sioux City, Iowa. 

The 200-yard medley relay 'A' team started things off with a second-place finish and a time of 1:53.74 while the 'C' team placed third with a time of 1:55.38. Ruth Huffman took the top honors in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:20.06 while Destini Oehlertz finished in third with a time of 5:25.99. 

Taylor Beagle placed first with a time of 2:15.07 in the 200-yard IM and Isabel Waite finished third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.74. Oehlertz and Kelsey Gilbert finished first and third in the 200-yard freestyle with times of 2:12.90 and 2:17.06. Freshman Cailey Scott earned silver with a time of 2:22.39 in the 200-yard butterfly while Beagle placed third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.27. 

In the 100-yard butterfly, Oehlertz finished with a time of 1:01.09 for second place, Emma Miller placed fifth with a time of 1:06.00. Finishing things off for the Vikings was the 200-yard freestyle relay teams. The 'A' team placed second with a time of 1:41.92 while the 'B' team placed third with a time of 1:43.56.

The Vikings will travel to Mankato, Minnesota, to take on NSIC foe Minnesota State on Thursday at 5 p.m.
