Vikings Break Two School Records on Day one of NSIC Championships

Vikings sit in third place with 117 points

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- With 117 points, the Augustana women's swimming team sits in third place after day one of the NSIC Championships.

Minnesota State leads the way with 174 points, St. Cloud State sits in second place with 146 points, Augustana compiled 117 points and sits in third place, with U-Mary and Sioux Falls rounding out the top five.

After a successful trials session earlier in the day, the Augustana women's swimming team picked up where they left off in the 1000 Freestyle. Sophomore Taylor Beagle placed second with a time of 10:21.55, Emma Miller placed fourth with a time of 10:27.25 and Kelsey Gilbert placed fifth with a time of 10:30.73.

Junior Jojo Lohner placed 10th in the 200 yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:09.29 which beat her season-best time of 2:15.03 set at the Dragon Cobber Invite. 

In the 50-yard Freestyle, junior Destini Oehlertz placed seventh with a time of 23.63. Oehlertz broke her own school record of 24.15 in the 50-yard Freestyle during trials with a time of 23.55.

Rounding out the day was the 200 Medley Relay. The 'A' team that consisted of Jojo Lohner, Micah Hudlet, Merriam Hagadorn, Isabel Waite placed third with a school record time of 1:46.71. They beat the previous record of 1:37.70 at the Dragon Cobber Invite last November by nine seconds. The 'B' team which comprised of Linzie Kreizel, Maggie Oberg, Abigail Magee and Hannah Oeltjen placed 10th with a time of 1:51.03.

Thursday's trial sessions will begin at 10 a.m. with the finals set for 6 p.m. Thursday will have the have the 200 Freestyle Relay, the 400 Individual Medley, the 100 Butterfly, the 200 Freestyle and the 400 Medley Relay.
