Vikings Travel North This Weekend

Men’s and women’s tennis teams look to extend their win streaks

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana men's and women's tennis teams will travel up North this weekend for a pair of matches on Saturday and Sunday. The women travel to Bemidji, Minn. to take on a pair of conference foes in Minnesota Crookston at 9 a.m. and Bemidji State at 1 p.m. with both matches on Sunday.

The men travel to Saint Peter, Minn. to take on Bethel at 1 p.m. and Gustavus Adolphus at 6 p.m. with both matches on Saturday.

Women
The Viking women (4-0, 2-0 NSIC) are fresh off a historic weekend in which they won their 100th straight conference match with a 7-0 win over U-Mary last Saturday. Augustana would make it 101 straight conference matches with a 7-0 win over MSU Moorhead on Sunday morning.

Last weekend reigning NSIC Player of the Week Kornelia Staniszewska extended her regular season win-streak to 22 matches with wins over Tasha Dembo (U-Mary) 6-2, 6-5 and Julie Geske (MSU Moorhead) 6-1, 6-1 in No. 1 Singles.

Arce Vieyra kept her undefeated streak alive with a pair of wins over Kelsey Lajom 6-0, 6-2 (U-Mary) and Lorissa Yuen (MSU Moorhead) 6-2, 6-2.

In No. 3 singles on Sunday Jackson beat Rachel Nguyen 6-4, 6-0, Grace Goble defeated Alexis Konecne 6-3, 6-3, Rusu defeated Oliva Keelin 6-4, 6-4 and Teske won 6-3, 6-3 over Kornblum.

Scouting Minnesota Crookston (0-3, 0-2 NSIC)
The Golden Eagles are looking for their first win of the season after dropping their first three matches of the season. Last week Minnesota Crookston fell 7-0 to Minnesota Duluth and 7-0 to St. Cloud State.

Scouting Bemidji State (4-2, 1-1 NSIC)
The Beavers are coming off a weekend split in which they fell to Minnesota-Duluth and defeated St. Cloud State 5-2. Bemidji State is 23-13 on the season in singles play and 11-7 in doubles action.

Men
The men are looking to keep their two-match win streak alive after a weekend sweep at the GreatLIFE Woodlake Athletic Club this past weekend. The Vikings defeated Mount Marty 7-0 on Friday and won 7-0 over Morningside on Sunday.

In singles action on Saturday, the Vikings swept the courts winning all six matches. In No. 1 Singles Barr defeated Cadario 6-3, 6-0, in No. 2 Singles Sawatzke defeated Castro 6-2, 6-0, VanDerWeide dominated Angel Sanz 6-2, 6-0 and in No. 4 singles Mrozek defeated Prochaska 6-1, 6-1.

Rounding out the day's action on the court was Knewtson and Kelly. Knewtson picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Opp while Kelly secured a 6-1, 6-1 win over Seamans.

Scouting Bethel (3-1)
Bethel is coming over a split weekend in which they saw their first loss of the season at the hands of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 8-1. As a team, they are 17-7 in singles action and 8-4 in doubles action.

Scouting Gustavus Adolphus (2-1)
Gustavus is coming off a win over the weekend down South in Lakeland, Fla. They defeated Southeastern 8-1.

The Gusties swept doubles and won five singles matches in straight sets last weekend in their win over Southeastern.
