Vikings Lose A Pair of Saturday Contests

The Vikings now fall to 2-4

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 ST PETER, Minn. -- The Augustana men's tennis team was back on the road after a pair of home matches last weekend. The Vikings saw their two-match win streak snapped at the hands of Bethel, 4-3 and Gustavus 6-1 on Saturday afternoon. Augustana moves to 2-4 on the year.

The Vikings fought hard against Bethel but ultimately would fall 4-3 on Saturday afternoon. Logan Barr and Austin VanDerWeide teamed up to take down Zach Kantor and Nick Knudsen 6-2 in No. 2 Doubles to pick up the only win in doubles play for the Vikings.

In No. 2 Singles, junior Logan Barr lost the first set but stormed back to win the next two for a 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 win over Erik Beckers. VanDerWeide picked up his fourth win of the season in singles play with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Nick Knudsen in No. 4 Singles.

Rounding out the first matchup of the day was North Knewtson in No. 6 Singles. The sophomore defeated Joey Mueller 6-4, 6-1.

In the second matchup of the day, Augustana fell to Gustavus Adolphus 6-1 on Saturday afternoon. Knewtson defeated Suyash Gupta 6-0, 6-2 in No. 5 singles to pick up his fifth win of the season in singles.

However, the Vikings couldn't collect any more points as Gustavus won the rest of the matches on Saturday afternoon.

The men now have nearly a month off of competition. Their next match will be on March 11 in Orlando, Fla. They will play four matches over the course of four days in Florida starting with Northwood on Monday, March 11 and ending with Millersville on Thursday, March 14.
