Augustana Finishes Fourth at NSIC Championships

Taylor Beagle sets meet record in 1650-yard Freestyle

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- With 552 points, one individual champion, one relay champion and 34 top-10 finishes, the Augustana women's swim team placed fourth at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Championships that concluded on Saturday night at the Midco Aquatic Center.

St. Cloud State won with 950.5 points, Minnesota State placed second with 902.5 points, Sioux Falls finished in third with 605.5 points and Augustana and U-Mary rounded out the top-five placers.

Augustana built off last nights exciting relay win to take home first, second and fourth in the 1650-yard Freestyle on Saturday night. Sophomore Taylor Beagle broke her own meet record from last year by just under six seconds with a time of 17:02.46 to take home the gold and Kelsey Gilbert finished just behind her in second with a time of 17:21.98. Gilbert improved her prelims time by 9.66 seconds.

Junior Emma Miller placed fourth with a time of 17:30.87 improving her prelims time by 2.30 seconds.

In the 100-yard Freestyle, junior Destini Oehlertz placed fifth with a time of 52.01 which was 0.40 seconds faster than her prelims time earlier in the day.

Junior Jojo Lohner placed 11th with a time of 2:06.39 in the 200-yard Backstroke beating her prelims time by 2.20 seconds.

Sophomore Micah Hudlet took ninth place in the 200-yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:24.44 beating her prelims time by 1.44 seconds.

In the final event of the NSIC Championships, the Vikings 400-yard Freestyle Relay 'A' team placed fifth with a time of 3:31.69 which was 0.90 seconds faster than their seed time. The 'A' team consisted of Miller, Kamryn Robarge, Gilbert and Oehlertz. The 'B' team placed 11th with a time of 3:35.61 beating their seed time by 9.26 seconds. They were made up of Merriam Hagadorn, Lohner, Isabel Waite and Hannah Oeltjen.

The NCAA will announce the field for the NCAA Championships on Wednesday, Feb 27.  The NCAA Championships, which are held in Indianapolis at the IU Natatorium on March 13-16.
