ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- Following a two-game split to start to the 2019 season, the Augustana baseball team is ranked first in the opening-edition of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Central Region Poll. The Vikings picked up 6-of-10 first place votes and 93 total points. Augustana is the defending central region and national champions.

Taking a look nationally, Augustana moved into a tie for second place with West Texas A&M as both schools registered 454 points. The Vikings did receive three first place votes, the second-most in this week's poll.

After an 8-2 start to the season, Tampa has claimed the top spot in week one NCBWA poll. It is the sixth-straight year that UT has held the No. 1 spot for at least one week.

The Vikings started their season last sunday with a 5-1 loss to Lindenwood (Mo.), but bounced back with a 12-3 win over the Lions in game two.

Augustana is off this weekend before hitting the road for a three-game set at Drury College. The Vikings and Panthers will start the series on Sat. March, 2 at noon.
