SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Two Augustana track and field athletes have been selected to compete in the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 8-9 in Pittsburg, Kan. Olivia Montez Brown qualified for the national event in the Pentathlon, while Paul Meloche qualified in the 60m Hurdles.

Viking men's & women's Track & Field head coach Tracy Hellman is thrilled for the pair to compete at the national championships.

"We are very excited to see Olivia and Paul qualify for the NCAA indoor championships. They have worked extremely hard to put them in a position to be successful. Most importantly, they are great leaders for our track and field program."

For the Augustana women, Montez Brown qualified for the event after a senior season to remember. The senior put up her best point total of the year in the Pentathlon at the NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships during the past weekend, recording 3,712 points. Montez Brown also scored the single-most points at the NSIC Championships with 25.

Last season at the NCAA Championships, Montez Brown took fourth in the Pentathlon with 3,863 points.

On the men's side, Meloche qualified for the 60m hurdles after a season in which he found a rhythm in the closing meets.

The senior tied his personal best of 8.14 seconds during the SDSU Last Chance to cap off the regular season, before surpassing his personal best in the NSIC Championships by shaving off an impressive 0.12 seconds for a time of 8.02 seconds.

The Viking athletes will compete in their respective events in Pittsburg, Kan. at the Robert W. Plaster Center on March 8-9.
