Augustana Men, Women in Action This Weekend

Women host a pair of matches while men travel to Nebraska

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana men's and women's tennis teams will swing into action this weekend with matches in both Sioux Falls and Nebraska. The women's team (8-0, 6-0 NSIC) will have a trio of games starting on Friday against Sioux Falls at 6:30 p.m., Saturday against Minnesota Duluth at 6:30 p.m. and ending on Sunday against St. Cloud State at 9 a.m.

Friday's match will be held at Huether Family Match Pointe and Saturday and Sunday's matches will be at the GreatLIFE Woodlake Athletic Club. Saturday's match against the Bulldogs will also be senior day.

The Augustana men (2-4) have a pair of matches in Nebraska on Saturday. Starting at 1 p.m. the Vikings will face off against Midland in Fremont, Neb. and then will travel to Lincoln, Neb. to take on Nebraska Wesleyan at 7 p.m.

Women
The Viking women are coming off a weekend sweep in Winona, Minn. over the weekend, taking down Winona State 7-0 and Upper Iowa 7-0.

The Vikings extended their conference win-streak to 105 games over the weekend and their overall won-streak to eight games on the season. They improved to 42-1 in singles action and 21-1 in doubles action overall on the season. In NSIC action, the Vikings brought their singles record to 31-0 and their doubles record to 16-0.

Kornelia Staniszewska brought her regular season singles win-streak to 24 matches, the last time Staniszewska lost was to Christina Zentai (Southwest Baptist) on May 8, 2016. The senior is now 6-0 on the season in No. 1 Singles action and 7-0 in No. 1 Doubles.  

Six-of-the-seven players are currently undefeated in singles action and five-of-the-seven players are currently undefeated in doubles action on the season.

The last time Augustana lost a set this season was Feb. 02 against Rockhurst, in which they won 6-1.

Scouting Sioux Falls (3-3, 3-3 NSIC)
The Cougars are coming off a weekend split against Winona State and Upper Iowa. USF lost to Winona State last Friday 5-2 before picking up the 4-1 win over Upper Iowa last Saturday. The Cougars are currently 16-16 in singles action and 8-9 in doubles action on the season.

Scouting Minnesota Duluth (7-1, 4-1 NSIC)
The Bulldogs are currently holding a three-game win streak this season. This past weekend Minnesota Duluth defeated Gustavus Adolphus 5-2 and turned around and beat Southwest Minnesota State 4-3 later that day. The Bulldogs are currently 35-13 in singles action and 11-13 in doubles action.

Scouting St. Cloud State (2-5 2-4 NSIC)
The Huskies are coming off a weekend split against Minnesota State and SMSU. St. Cloud State fell to MSU 4-3 and bounced back with a 4-3 win over the Mustangs. The Huskies are currently 19-23 in singles action and 11-10 in doubles action on the season.

Men
The men haven't had a match since Feb. 16 in which they fell to Bethel in a tightly contested match 4-3 and 6-1 to Gustavus Adolphus.

The Vikings are 18-18 on the season in singles action and 10-7 in doubles action.

In their match against Bethel, they picked up three singles win and one doubles win. Sophomore North Knewtson went 2-0 against tough competition picking up the 6-4, 6-1 win over Joey Mueller in No. 6 Singles against Bethel and picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win over Suyash Gupta in No. 5 Singles.

Knewtson is currently 5-1 on the season in singles and 3-2 in doubles action. Senior Austin VanDerWeide has been having a good year in the third and fourth spot going 4-2 in singles and 4-1 in doubles action on the season.

Scouting Midland (3-2)
The Warriors are coming off an 8-1 win over Bethel College (Kan.) last Friday. They currently are riding a two-game win streak.

Scouting Nebraska Wesleyan (1-2)
Nebraska Wesleyan is coming off a loss to Bethel College (Kan.) 7-2 last Saturday. They are currently 5-7 in singles action and 2-4 in doubles action on the season.
