Staniszewska Earns NSIC Athlete of the Week Honor

The senior extended her regular-season win streak to 20 matches

BURNSVILLE, Minn. -- For the first time this season, Augustana women's tennis student-athlete Kornelia Staniszewska, a senior from Opalenie, Poland, has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Athlete of the Week.

It's the 10th time Staniszewska has earned Athlete of the Week honors and first of the season for the Vikings.

The three-time NSIC Player of the Year finished the weekend 2-0 in both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles play. She extended her regular-season win streak to 20 matches with a win over Nebraska-Kearney's Vasilisa Polunova 6-0, 6-1. She also defeated Rockhurst's Sam Czarnecki 6-1, 6-0 on Saturday in No. 1 singles.

In doubles play, Staniszewska and Arce Vieyra defeated Czarnecki and Paula Romero 6-0 on Saturday. On Sunday, Staniszewska teamed up with Anca Rusu to take down Polunova and Pranathi Gannavaram 6-4.

As a team, Augustana (2-0, 0-0 NSIC) swept the weekend play 6-1 over Rockhurst and 7-0 against Central Region No. 7 Nebraska-Kearney. The Vikings are ranked No. 5 in the ITA Central Region rankings.

The Vikings have won 99 straight NSIC matches dating back to the 2009 season and look to capture 100 straight matches this Saturday when they open up conference play in Bismarck, N.D at U-Mary.
