KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Opening a 12-game road trip in the sunshine state, the Augustana softball team made a statement on Friday afternoon. In game one, the Vikings rolled past Gannon University (PA) with an 11-0 victory and closed the day with an 18-0 win over Fairmont State University (WV). Augustana is now 7-3 (0-0 NSIC).
Moments that mattered:
- In total, Augustana racked up 29 runs and allowed 0.
- The 18-run game-two output marks a season-high for the Vikings.
- Starters Ashley Mickschl (4 IP, 0 Hits, 0 ER) and Olivia Wolters (CP, 3 Hits, 0 ER) both got the Vikings off to a strong start in game one and two, respectively.
- 10 Vikings collected 2 hits or more, and Taylor Bross finished 5-of-6 with four RBI.
- Augustana finished 33-of-66 (.500) on the day.
Game One:
In the top of the first, the Viking bats came out swinging.
Maggie Kadrlik doubled down the line for the games first RBI, and moments later Bross and Amber Elliot both singled to drive in two more runs.
Now leading 3-0, Augustana added on three more runs in the second inning. Mickschl drove in Mary Prado with an RBI, and Kadrlik and Bross both followed up a pair of RBI singles.
The story of game one was also the performance from Mickschl. She tossed four innings of no-hit ball, collected six strikeouts, and faced just the minimum of 12 batters.
By the six, the Vikings had control of the game, but the offense continued to contribute. Bross picked up her 4th hit of the game and
Samantha Eisenreich followed with an RBI.
Amanda Dickmeyer continued her strong start, singling to center for the games 11th and final run.
Game Two:
Olivia Wolters started game two and kept the Viking momentum going. The junior finished the day with a complete-game shutout, striking out three and allowing just three hits.
In Augustana's first at-bat,
Kendall Cornick started off with a blast. The Junior crushed her first home run of the year, giving the Vikings a 1-0 lead.
The Viking added on three more in the second but proved to have their biggest inning of the season in the third. With the bases loaded,
Christina Pickett drove in three runs on a triple, making it a 7-0 game.
Still, in the third,
Maggie Dunnett crushed a two-run shot, and then freshman
Delaney Young picked up the first two RBI of her Viking career on a single to left. The Vikings added three more in the 4th inning before the game ended in the 5th.
Augustana continues play on Saturday versus Northwoods (MI) at 3 p.m., before taking on the University of Texas-Tyler at 5 p.m.
