Augustana Women's Tennis Seeks Ninth Straight NSIC Tournament Championship

Vikings face SMSU in the first round on Saturday at 2 p.m.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The No. 29 Augustana women's tennis team will try for their ninth straight NSIC Tournament title when they travel to Minnetonka, Minn. to compete in the NSIC Tennis Tournament on Saturday, April 12 and Sunday, April 13. The Vikings earned the No. 1 seed in the eight-team single elimination tournament after clinching their 10th straight NSIC regular season title with a perfect 11-0 conference season.

Augustana (16-2, 11-0 NSIC) will face the No. 8 seeded Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs (13-11, 3-8 NSIC) on Saturday, April 13 at 2 p.m inside the Lifetime Fitness in Minnetonka, Minn. If the Vikings defeat the Mustangs they will advance to the semifinal round and take on the winner of the U-Mary - Minnesota Duluth match on Sunday, April 13 at 8 a.m. The NSIC Championship is scheduled for Sunday, April 13 at noon.

Senior Kornelia Staniszewska is a perfect 15-0 and is ranked 26th nationally in singles play this season. Eight of those wins have come against NSIC opponents. Junior Taylor Jackson is 15-2 on the season and 11-6 in doubles play. Grace Goble has won three straight singles matches, completed the regular season 9-0 in conference play and is 12-3 overall. Laura Arce Vieyra finished her stellar freshman season with a 9-0 record in conference singles play and is currently 14-1 overall.

Staniszewska and Arce Vieyra went undefeated throughout the season and are currently the No. 9 ranked doubles duo in the nation. They hold a 10-0 record in conference play and 16-0 record overall. Goble and Teske went 13-4 during the season and 10-0 in conference play.

Augustana is 83-15 on the season in singles play and 57-1 in conference action, they also went 42-10 in doubles play and 30-1 in conference action.

Decade of Dominance
The Vikings have won 110 straight NSIC matches with their last loss coming on April 19, 2009, when they fell to Minnesota State. Augustana holds a 117-3 record since joining the NSIC in the 2008-09 season and has won the past 10 NSIC regular season titles and the last eight NSIC Tournaments. The Vikings also come into the tournament winning their last 22 NSIC Tournament matches.

Postseason Outcomes
The NCAA Central Region is comprised of the 29 teams from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (12), Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) (10), and the Great American Conference (GAC) (7). The postseason tournament winner from each conference receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Central Region Tournament on May 13-14 and will be joined by the next three highest ranked teams in the final rankings. Two teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the final site, which will be played May 22-25 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida.  The NCAA women's tennis selections will be announced on Tuesday, May 7 at www.NCAA.com.
