INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA Central Super Region Championship field has been announced and Augustana student-athletes
Hannah Hankinson and
McKayla Poppens have been selected to compete as individuals in the 2019 Central Super Regional. The Central Super Regional will be played at Muskogee Country Club in Muskogee, Okla. and will be hosted by Northeastern State on May 6-8.
Hankinson led the team at the NSIC Championships and placed third in a field of 59 total golfers after she turned in a three-round score of 237 and jumped two spots on the final day to third place. The Preseason Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Golfer of the Year finished at +21 (82, 77, 78) this past weekend in Morton, Minn.
The junior earned NSIC All-Tournament team honors for placing in the top-five at the championship. Hankinson has the lowest scoring average in the NSIC with an average of 76.7 strokes, she has a total of 1227 strokes in 16 rounds played this season.
An Edina, Minn. native, Hankinson also has the second lowest round of golf throughout the whole season in the NSIC at 71 in the first round of the Augustana Invitational earlier this fall. She placed top honors twice this season along with six times placing in the top-five and seven times placing in the top-10.
Poppens tied for eighth place and shot a pair of 79s after the first day and an 84 on the final day to finish at +26 (242) at the NSIC Championships. The Tea, S.D. native, has the lowest scoring round in the NSIC with a score of 70 in the second round of the Jennies Golf Invitational.
The junior also is third in the conference with an average of 78.8 strokes (1260 total) in 16 rounds of competition. Poppens has placed in the top-five three times and has five top-10 places throughout the season so far.
The Central Region is made up of teams from the NSIC, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association and the Great American Conference.
Joining Hankinson and Poppens as individuals are Lexi Hanson (Sioux Falls), Hannah Perkins (Fort Hays State), Alexandra Demko (Minot State), Sophia Hill (Concordia St. Paul).
The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from each super regional will advance to the championships, which are held May 14-18 in Palm Beach Garden, Fla.
