SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- The Augustana track and field teams kicked off their 2019 outdoor season on Saturday when they competed in the Dordt Invitational. The Viking men had six top-three finishes, while the women put up 17 top-threes.
The Augustana women had five winners of their events.
Callie DeWitt grabbed a victory in the 100m with a time of 12.02 seconds.
Selin Dikmen won the 200m final at 25.60 seconds. Sophomore
Carly Rahn put up a winning time in the 800m final at 2:14.78.
Nicolette Schmidt won the 1500m at 4:48.34. In the 4x100m, Augustana's team of
Olivia Montez Brown,
Alaina Klapperich, Dikmen, and DeWitt won the event with a time of 47.63 seconds.
On the men's side, three Augustana athletes won their respective events. Senior
Josh Barrows won the 800m with a time of 1:53.57, while freshman
Matt Steiger took first in the 1500m at 4:01.45. Senior
Paul Meloche continued his success from the indoor season in the hurdles, winning the 110m hurdles at 14.76 seconds, a personal best in the event.
The Vikings next meet is scheduled for April 12-13 at the Sioux City Relays in Sioux City, Iowa.
