BURNSVILLE, Minn. -- The 2019 NSIC Women's Tennis Tournament pairings have been finalized the league office announced on Saturday night. Augustana, who clinched their 10th straight NSIC regular season title this season, will be the No. 1 seed in the eight-team single elimination tournament. The Vikings will face the No. 8 seeded Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs on Saturday, April 13 at 2 p.m.
The tournament starts on Saturday, April 13 and will conclude the next day on Sunday at the Lifetime Fitness in Minnetonka, Minn. Play will begin at 9 a.m. with No. 2 MSU Moorhead taking on No. 7 seeded Bemidji State and ending with No. 4 seed Minnesota Duluth vs. No. 5 seeded U-Mary at 4:30 p.m on Saturday.
Both semifinal matches will be played Sunday, April 14 at 8 a.m. with the championship match set for noon on Sunday.
Decade of Dominance
The Vikings have won 110 straight NSIC matches with their last loss coming on April 19, 2009, when they fell to Minnesota State. Augustana holds a 117-3 record since joining the NSIC in the 2008-09 season and has won the past 10 NSIC regular season titles and the last eight NSIC Tournaments. The Vikings also come into the tournament winning their last 22 NSIC Tournament matches.
Postseason Outcomes
The NCAA Central Region is comprised of the 29 teams from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (12), Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) (10), and the Great American Conference (GAC) (7). The postseason tournament winner from each conference receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Central Region Tournament on May 13-14 and will be joined by the next three highest ranked teams in the final rankings. Two teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the final site, which will be played May 22-25 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida. The NCAA women's tennis selections will be announced on Tuesday, May 7 at www.NCAA.com.
