SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- As part of its department vision of enhancing the student-athlete experience, Augustana Athletics recently opened a new fueling station on campus.

Located on the ground floor of the Elmen Center, the fueling station is designed to assist in post-workout recovery for all 19 Vikings athletics programs. Thanks to a partnership with Dean Foods, student-athletes are able to refuel with chocolate milk and other high protein snacks.

"This shows our commitment to our current and future student-athletes. Our partnership with Dean Foods was really the beginning of our nutrition program which will continue to grow," said Athletic Director Josh Morton. "This is an important step to help our student-athletes develop as athletes and we also want to give them nutrition education that sets them up for the rest of their lives."

Augustana Athletics has also partnered with the Sanford Sports Science Institute with sports dietitian Lizzie Kasparek providing education for the over 400 Viking student-athletes.

"The Viking fueling station shows a huge commitment to our student-athletes," Strength and Conditioning Coordinator Brett Chambers said. "With unique time demands, the Viking fueling station benefits Augustana student-athletes by providing resources to fill the nutritional gaps created by their daily schedule."

Not only is Chambers excited to see how big of an impact the fueling station will have on the student-athlete, but basketball student-athlete Adam Dykman also shares the same excitement.

"I really like that the station can offer some nutritional benefits to all athletes on campus," Dykman said. "It is convenient to stop in before or after a hard workout to refuel the body. As a basketball team, we are always looking to get stronger and the nutrition station is such an advantage compared to those competing in our conference and D2 programs in general."
