SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana women's golf team will look to repeat its success they've had thus far at the Ramada Mustang Invite on Saturday and Sunday in Marshall, Minnesota.
The Invite
This will be the third tournament for the Vikings of the fall season. There will be 10 NSIC teams competing in Marshall over the weekend. The 36-hole invite begins with a shotgun start on Saturday at 1 p.m. and will conclude with the final round on Sunday beginning with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.
The Opponents
Nearly 90 individuals are expected to compete from 13 teams including Southwest Minnesota State, Augustana, Bemidji State, Black Hills State, Chadron State, Manitoba, Minnesota State, Minnesota Crookston, MSU Moorhead, Minot State, St. Cloud State, Upper Iowa and Winona State.
The Vikings
Augustana won the Golden Bear Classic after shooting a two-round total of 634 (303/303). Junior Alex Stone fired a 75 and 69 (144) to claim the individual title and earned NSIC Player of the Week honors for her performance.
Hannah Hankinson finished in second place behind Stone to finish with a score of 71 and 75 for a total of 146. Freshman
Molly Stevens finished 11 strokes behind Hankinson to tie for ninth place with a score of +13 (157). The Vikings won the tournament by 19 strokes over Sioux Falls, who finished with a total of 625.
Player To Watch
Junior Alex Stone has had an impressive start to her season. The Crosslake, Minnesota, native, shot three-under-par 69 in the second round to give her a new career-low round. Stone earned her first NSIC Player of the Week honors after taking home the individual title at the Golden Bear Classic. At the Tracy Lane Invite, Stone placed in the top-five by firing off rounds of 83 and 79 for a score of +18 (162) which tied her for fifth place.
One Last Thing
The Vikings have won the past two tournaments while also taking home the individual medalist as well. At the Golden Bear Classic, the Vikings placed 19 strokes ahead of the second-place team and 30 strokes ahead of the second-place finisher at the Tracy Lane Invite.
