Augustana Swimming Celebrates Senior Day in Winning Fashion

SIOUX FALLS -- The Augustana swimming team defeated Southwest Minnesota State 199-57 on Saturday afternoon in the Elmen Center during the program's first-ever Senior Day. 

The Vikings honored six seniors: Paige Knight, Linzie Kreizel, Emma Miller, Maggie Oberg, Destini Oehlertz and Abby Rubado as they finished their careers in the Elmen Center with a victory. 

The Vikings started the day with a win in the 200-yard medley relay as Destini Oehlertz, Micah Hudlet, Merriam Hagadorn and Kamryn Robarge placed first with a time of 1:52.34. 

Augustana swept the podium in the next event, the 1,000-yard freestyle, with Taylor Beagle winning the event with a time of 10:38.94. Emma Miller took second-place with a time of 10:47.33 and Hannah Lambert followed closely behind for third-place with a time of 11:06.73. 

Oehlertz tallied the next win for the Vikings in the 100-yard backstroke. It was Oehlertz's second overall win of the day as the senior finished with a time of 59.03. Micah Hudlet followed Oehlertz's performance with a win of her own, her second of the day as well, in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.92. 

Ruth Huffman won the next event for Augustana, the 200-yard fly, with a time of 2:14.80. The Vikings then swept the podium again in the 50-yard freestyle. Rebecca Schmidt took home first-place with a time of 26.01. Hagadorn and Justine Stellmaker followed closely behind, both finishing with a time of 26.06 and tying for second-place. 

Augustana took the top three spots in the 100-yard freestyle race as Oehlertz took home another first-place honor with a time of 54.17. Rebecca Schmidt took second with a time of 57.35 and Stellmaker took third with a time of 57.56. 

Augustana won the next five individual events with Cailey Scott winning the 200-yard backstroke (2:12.31), Hudlet winning the 200-yard breaststroke (2:31.82), Miller winning the 500-yard freestyle (5:15.75), Huffman winning the 100-yard fly (1:01.20) and Beagle winning the 400-yard individual medley.

The Vikings finished off the day with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Kamryn Robarge, Justine Stellmaker, Emma Miller and Destini Oehlertz combined for a time of 1:41.19. 

Overall, Augustana won the dual 199-57 and took home first-place in 13 of the 14 events on Saturday.
