No. 22 Viking Swimming Sprints Past Nebraska-Kearney, 109-67

Augustana now prepares for NSIC Championships

KEARNEY, Neb. -- Wrapping up the regular season, the No. 22 ranked Augustana Swim team put together a strong team performance for a 109-67 win over the University of Nebraska-Kearney. The Vikings, who took first-place in all 11 swim events on Saturday, claimed a program-record seventh victory of the season.

Augustana now prepares for the 2020 NSIC Women's Swimming & Diving Championship, which runs February 12-15 at the BSC Aquatic & Wellness Center in Bismarck, North Dakota. In 2019, Augustana took home fourth place at the event. 

Saturday's dual with the Loopers started well for Augustana, claiming the top two spots in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. The team of Micah Hudlet, Merriam Hagadorn, Chrislin Nieuwoudt and Justine Stellmaker finished in 1:54.38 for the win. 

The Vikings carried the momentum into the 1000 yard freestyle, where Cailey Scott touched the wall first in 11:24.54. Teammate Paige Knight was also impressive, finishing second at 11:59.96.

Moving to the 200 Yard Freestyle, senior Emma Miller set the standard with a first-place finish in 1:59.31. Kamryn Robarge (2:03.56) and Linzie Kreizel (2:04.71) rounded out the top three. 

The Vikings also claimed the top three spots in 50 Yard Freestyle, with Destini Oehlertz winning the event in 25.10. Reigning NSIC Swimmer of the Week Taylor Beagle took a pair of titles, first in the 200 Yard IM (2:15.52) and following it up with first place in the 500 Yard Freestyle (5:13.95). Freshman Ruth Huffman took home second at 5:27.63.

A dominant day continued for the Vikings as they swept the top-three places in both the 100 Yard Fly and the 100 Yard Freestyle. Linzie Kreizel took home first in the Fly (1:01.64) and Miller touched the wall in 56.02 for first in the 100 Free. 

Oehlertz made her claim for Swimmer of the Week with a 1:00.87 first-place finish in the 100 Yard Backstroke, and fellow Vikings Justine Stellmaker (1:04.48) and Lydia Smith (104.75) rounded out the top-three. 

Hudlet claimed her second overall win of the day in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, sprinting to first place in 1:10.54. In the same event, Alysse Grohs took home second in 1:12.24. Augustana closed down the day with a win in the 200 Yard Freestyle relay, as Kelsey Gilbert, Robarge, Miller and Oehlertz finished in 1:42.04.
