Hellman Announces Eight More Signees to Augustana Programs

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Augustana cross country and track & field head coach Tracy Hellman announced the addition of eight student-athletes in the 2021 signing period to continue their athletic and academic careers at Augustana. 

"We are very excited to announce this next group of signees," Hellman said, "These individuals will increase our goal of great balance within our track & field program. The coaching staff has worked hard on signing this class, and we look forward to seeing them compete next year."

This group of late signees will bring the total 2021-22 freshmen class to twenty four.  

"This signing class features some of the top local athletes as well as regional and international talent," assistant coach Greg Binstock said. "We are excited to bring all of these athletes to Augustana. These eight athletes complement our early signing class well and ultimately add to one of the most competitive classes that we have been able to bring in. 

"These athletes are talented, but we also feel that they supplement the culture of our program incredibly well by being committed teammates and dedicated students in the classroom."

Beau Brock | Distance | Pewaukee, Wisconsin | Pewaukee High School

In his senior year, Brock was first team all-conference and placed first at the Pewaukee Cross Country Meet. His sophomore season, Brock was a part of a state-qualifying 4x800m relay, and was part of the conference championship team in both cross country and track & field. 

Brock plans to major in biology while at Augustana.

Gavin Fischer | Sprints | Sioux Falls, South Dakota | Lincoln High School

In his sophomore year, Fischer was a three-event South Dakota state qualifier. He placed sixth in the 400m, ninth in the 200m and was part of the Lincoln 4x200m that placed third at the state meet. His junior season was cut short due to COVID-19. 

Fischer is undecided on a major.

Ella Heinitz | Sprints | Dell Rapid, South Dakota | St. Mary High School

In her sophomore year, Heinitz was a three-event state qualifier. She placed in all three events at the state meet. Her top place was third in the 400m, also placing sixth in the 100m and eighth in the 200m at the South Dakota state meet. Her junior season was cut short due to COVID-19. 

Heinitz plans to major in psychology while at Augustana.

Nyanas Kur | Sprints/Hurdles | Sioux Falls, South Dakota | Washington High School

In her sophomore year, she placed third in the 300m hurdles at the state meet as well as fifth in the 100m. She holds a 12.35 100m personal best and a 46.23 personal best in the 300m hurdles. She also was part of the winning 4x100m relay her freshman year, and placed 4th in the 100m in 12.44. Her junior season was cut short due to COVID-19. 

Kur is undecided on a major.

Maria Pedroso Alvarez | Multi's | Escola Mestral, España | Sant Feliu De Llobregat 

Alvarez has experience in the multis with personal bests in the pentathlon at 3,149 points and 4,262 points in the heptathlon. She also holds personal best of 26.32 in the 200m and 2:34.36 in the 800m. 

Alvarez plans to major in business while at Augustana.

Tyler Re | Distance | Kimberly, Wisconsin | Kimberly High School

In his senior year, Re was a state qualifier at the WIAA State Cross Country Meet. His junior year, he placed 13th at the 2019 NXR Heartland Open Invitational. He holds a 16:03.12 5k personal best.

Re plans to major in environmental studies while at Augustana.

Kaja Salemonson | Jumps | Oslo, Norway | Haugesund Toppidretts Gymnas

Salemonson holds the city record in the triple jump and has participated in junior nationals. She holds personal bests of 38-.25 for the triple jump and 16-10.25 for the long jump. 

Salemonson is undecided on a major. 

Tyler Sellin | Hurdles | Norfolk, Nebraska | Norfolk Senior High School

In his sophomore year, Sellin qualified for the Nebraska State Meet, placing 14th in the 110m hurdles. He was also  part of the Norfolk Senior team who placed second at the districts meet. Sellin holds a 43.43 personal best in the 300m hurdles. 

Sellin plans to major in psychology while at Augustana.
