Augustana Wrestling Set for South Dakota State Dual Friday

Travels to Nebraska for Kearney Open Saturday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.-- Augustana wrestling travels to Brookings, South Dakota, to open its dual season on Friday and Kearney, Nebraska, to participate in the Nebraska Kearney Open on Saturday.

The Events

Augustana begins its dual season at the South Dakota State Duals, hosted by South Dakota State. Augustana will wrestle the Jackrabbits at 7 p.m. 

The Vikings will travel to Kearney, Nebraska, on Saturday for the Nebraska Kearney Open. The tournament is set to begin at 9 a.m.

The Jackrabbits

South Dakota State saw one champion in its first event of the season. The Jackrabbits participated in the Bison Open in Fargo, North Dakota, last weekend to begin their season. All-American Clay Carlson claimed the 141-pound title at the season-opening Bison Open for SDSU.

The Vikings

Augustana enters the dual and tournament weekend coming off of the DWU Open last weekend. The Vikings saw two victories in Jack Huffman competing in the 133-pound weight class and Steven Hajas, competing at 285 pounds.

Augustana saw five wrestlers take home second-place finishes in the tournament.

Huffman went 4-0 beating nationally ranked teammate, and two-time national qualifier, Brandon Carroll. He earned a 4-0 record at the tournament by way of fall, two major decisions and decision. 

Steven Hajas claimed the victory at the DWU Open competing in the 285-pound weight class. Hajas, ranked No. 4 nationally, defeated five opponents and recorded two falls and two technical falls at the tournament. 

Brandon Carroll, nationally ranked at No. 11 and regionally ranked at No. 2, placed second in the DWU Open at 133 pounds behind teammate Huffman. Carroll claimed the victory at the Jimmie Open, the first tournament that AU participated in this season.

Up Next

Augustana will make its home debut at the Elmen Center on Dec. 3rd at 7 p.m. to host Upper Iowa for Professor Appreciation night. The Vikings take on the North Dakota State Bison at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on December 4, and the event start is set for 1 p.m.
