SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana swimming team opens up the postseason on Wednesday at the NSIC Championships. The four-day event will take place Wednesday through Saturday at the Hulbert Aquatic Center in West Fargo, North Dakota. MSU Moorhead is the host school for the championships this year.
Quotable
"We are excited to travel to West Fargo this week for the NSIC Championships and to have the opportunity to compete," Augustana head coach Lindsie Micko said. "In a year of unknown, it's great for our student-athletes to have some normalcy in competition.
"I'm proud of our team for their perseverance, hard work and mental toughness and I can't wait to see them race."
The Meet
The swimming prelims will take place each day at 10 a.m. and finals at 5:30 p.m. The schedule of the events can be found here. No spectators will be allowed at the event. However, a free live stream will be available at GoAugie.com/Live.
The Competition
St. Cloud State was the preseason favorite on the year and has shown true with two Divers of the Week from Madison Brinkman and a Swimmer of the Week in Alyssa Doherty in the regular season. Minnesota State, who garnered one Swimmer of the Week in Ella DeFever, was tabbed second while Sioux Falls was picked third and garnered a Swimmer of the Week in Jenna Krahn. The Vikings were tabbed fourth in the preseason poll.
The Vikings
Across 15 events, there are 33 times from the Vikings that could be points for Augustana at the conference meet. Among those 33, eight of the times sit within the top eight in their respective events.
Senior Micah Hudlet has two events within the top-eight in the conference in the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM. Also having times in the top-eight in her respective events within the conference is junior Alysse Grohs in the 200 and 400 IM. Last year's NSIC Freshman of the Year, Ruth Huffman, has top-eight times in the 500-free and 200 fly. Also looking to score points for Augustana are junior Isabel Waite and junior Kamryn Robarge.
Swimmer to Watch
Senior Taylor Beagle, the reigning NSIC Swimmer of the Meet and Swimmer of the Year, has kept true to herself. In the regular season, she has conference-leading times in the 1650-free, 500-free and 400 IM, along with holding the second spot in the 1000-free and 200 IM, while also cracking top-10 in the 200 backstroke.
