BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Augustana freshman Valeriya Monko has been named the NSIC Player of the Week for women's tennis. Monko and the Vikings played Jan. 30 & 31 in St. Joseph, Missouri, but were part of this past week's nominations due to being the only team competing that opening weekend.
 
Monko opened her collegiate career holding a 2-0 mark in singles and 2-0 in doubles, both in the No. 1 slot. She prevailed 6-3, 6-2, in the season-opening against Missouri Western. The next day, she won 6-3, 6-4, against Southwest Baptist, the 15^th-ranked team in the country.
 
In doubles, she has partnered with Florentia Hadjigeorgiou and won 6-0 in both matches.
 
Augustana continues its season Saturday at Winona State.
