BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Augustana freshman tennis student-athlete Valeriya Monko has been named the NSIC Player of the Week for the second time this season. Monko went 2-0 at No. 1 singles over the two-week period for this week's honor.
 
Monko, hailing from Rostov-of-Don, Russia, prevailed 6-1, 6-1, over Nebraska Kearney on March 7, then won 6-0, 6-2, over Rockhurst this past Saturday. In the same matches, she partnered with Florentia Hadjigeorgiou for a pair of 6-1 wins at No. 1 doubles.
 
For the season, Monko is not only making a run at the NSIC Freshman of the Year, but also Player of the Year, as she is 9-0, all at No. 1 singles, and 9-0 at No. 1 doubles. Her nine victories are an NSIC-best.
 
Augustana, 8-1 overall and 5-0 in NSIC action, is slated to next play on March 27 at UMary.
