SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana women's tennis team closes its five-match homestand on Sunday with a 9 a.m. match with Nebraska-Kearney inside GreatLIFE Woodlake.
The Vikings are 6-1 on the season and 5-0 in NSIC action. Nebraska-Kearney is 1-2 on the season.
About the Vikings
Augustana has picked right up where it left off in the 2020 season and is currently riding a five-match win streak, led atop by freshman
Valeriya Monko. She is 7-0 in her inaugural campaign, all at No. 1 singles. She is also 7-0 in doubles action and partners with
Florentia Hadjigeorgiou at No. 1 doubles.
Also undefeated in 2021 is
Emily Granson at 5-0 and
Rebecca Falkner at 2-0.
Margarita Chouliara is coming off a strong weekend in which she went 2-0 with 6-0, 6-0, victories over Minnesota State and Sioux Falls. For the year, She is 6-1 with a 3-0 mark at No. 3 singles and 3-1 at No. 4 singles.
Augustana is coming off a Sunday sweep, winning 7-0 over Minnesota State and 7-0 over Sioux Falls.
About the Lopers
Nebraska-Kearney has not started MIAA action but topped regional opponent Oklahoma Baptist 6-1 in early February. On that same date, Feb. 5, UNK fell 5-2 to Colorado Mesa. Most recently, Nebraska Kearney fell 6-1 at No. 10 Flagler, a one-off trip to Florida.
Three individuals own 2-1 records for UNK including Mia Sherikulova at No. 1 singles. The lone victory against the nationally-ranked Flagler came from the racket of Melisa Becerra who is also 2-1, with a 1-1 record at No. 2 singles and 1-0 at No. 3 singles.
Nebraska Kearney was picked sixth in the preseason MIAA Coaches' Poll.
