EDMOND, Okla. -- For the 10th-straight season, the Augustana women's tennis team is headed to the NCAA Central Region Tournament, this time as the No. 2 seed. The Vikings will face No. 3 seeded Washburn in the regional hosted by Central Oklahoma at the Edmond Center Court, in Edmond, Oklahoma. The match is slated for 10 a.m. on Saturday.
"We are looking forward to our match against Washburn," Augustana head coach Marc Kurtz said. "We've been working all year towards this and now we are here and get the chance to put all of our work into this match.
"We are ready to go."
About the Vikings
Augustana is fresh off its 10th-straight NSIC tournament title and is on an eight-match winning-streak and holds an 18-2 overall record. This is the 11th-straight year that the Vikings have made it to the central region tournament. Augustana is looking for its first NCAA victory since May 7, 2016, when it topped Northwest Missouri State 5-4.
The freshmen standouts in Valeriya Monko and Florentia Hadjigeorgiou have records of 16-2 and 14-2 in No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. When paired in No. 1 doubles they hold a record of 16-3.
About the Ichabods
Washburn is coming off the MIAA conference tournament where they lost to Central Oklahoma in the finals, 4-0. The Ichabods hold a record of 14-1 overall and a 7-1 record within the MIAA. They are currently ranked 17th in the nation.
The Central Regional
Five teams are set to compete in the NCAA Central Region Tournament. The first match gets underway Friday between No. 4 seed Harding and No. 5 seed Northwest Missouri State. The winner of that match faces the No. 1 seed, and host, Central Oklahoma on Saturday at 10 a.m.
The Region Championship is slated for Sunday at 10 a.m.
