SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Three members of the Augustana football team have been named to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District Football Team. Selected by CoSIDA, the team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Â
Viking football student-athletes
T.J. Liggett,
Luke Fritsch and
Eli Weber have been named to the NCAA Division II Super Region 4 Team.
Â
Liggett is a computer science major hailing from Rosemount, Minnesota, while holding a 3.9 GPA. Fritsch, a native of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, holds a 3.81 GPA in biology. Weber is a nursing major from Dawson, Minnesota, while he maintains a 3.67 GPA.
Â
Due to a lack of football games played in 2020-21, career statistics were used to aid in the voting instead of the usual single-season stats.
Â
The trio most recently helped lead Augustana to the NCAA Division II playoffs in 2019 while maintaining a perfect home record at 6-0. Overall, the Vikings went 9-3 in the 2019 season.
Â
Weber, a defensive back, was a First Team All-NSIC South Division performer while earning all-region accolades from Don Hanson. Liggett, a linebacker, was named to the NSIC's second team. Fritsch totaled three interceptions for AU, helping the Vikings rank 10
th in the nation with a total of 19 team interceptions.
Â
All three move onto the national ballot for Academic All-America with the team announced later this summer.
