Augustana Men’s Tennis to Compete in MIAA/GAC as Associate Member

6/20/2021 10:42:00 PM

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Augustana men's tennis team has a conference home. The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association CEO Council approved the associate membership of the Augustana men's tennis team to compete in the MIAA/GAC Men's Tennis North Division beginning with the 2021-22 academic year.

"I'm thrilled for our student-athletes today and tomorrow who will get the chance to compete for a championship," Augustana Director of Athletics Josh Morton said. "The geographic alignment with the MIAA makes sense on so many levels and we can't wait to compete."

Augustana will play in the MIAA North Division which features Washburn, Northwest Missouri, Newman and Emporia State. No stranger to foes of the North Division, Augustana has competed against Washburn, Northwest Missouri State and Emporia State each of the past three seasons.

"Augustana University has a long history of sponsoring men's tennis, the institution has outstanding facilities and it is committed to providing its student-athletes a first class experience," said MIAA Commissioner Mike Racy. "The MIAA is excited to welcome the Vikings to the MIAA-GAC Men's Tennis Conference, a partnership designed to help protect the sport of NCAA Division II Men's Tennis in the Midwest."

Augustana will continue as a full member of the NSIC while having associate and affiliate sponsorship in sports not sponsored by the NSIC. That includes the men's tennis program with the MIAA/GAC and the men's swimming & diving program in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
