Augustana Football Names Team Captains for 2021

8/4/2021 1:00:00 PM

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana football team has announced its four team captains for the 2021 season with three seniors and a junior. On the offensive side of the ball, quarterback Kyle Saddler and running back Rudolh Sinflorant earned the title of team captain while defensive lineman Logan Swanson and defensive back Eli Weber are the defensive captains.

"It is a phenomenal group of four captains," Vikings head coach Jerry Olszewski said. "I have been blessed with some great captains and this group as a whole brings so many different parts to the table.

"I think this group of guys has really done a great job of reaching out and identifying the parts of the team and bringing them together. That's what I'm most pleased with about this group. Not only are they talented football players and some of the best players on our team, obviously, but they've really reached out to the younger players, especially, to provide leadership of how we do what we do and why you are a Viking."

Sinflorant has a career of 29 games played while racking up 1,718 career yards rushing. The native of Dunnellon, Florida, has totaled 15 touchdowns over his career with 12 on the ground and three through the air.

Saddler, the NSIC South Division Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, will mark himself as a four-year starter at quarterback in 2021. Hailing from Frisco, Texas, Saddler has tossed for 6,972 yards in his career with 53 touchdowns, an average of 224.9 yards per game.

Swanson tied the Augustana single-season record of eight quarterback sacks in 2019 and is a veteran of 32 games for the Vikings. The Mankato, Minnesota, native has totaled 102 tackles in his career with 25.5 of them marked as tackles for loss.

Weber came to Augustana from Dawson, Minnesota, and exploded on the scene as a sophomore during the 2019 season. He earned First Team NSIC All-South Division honors with 66 tackles and, 13 pass breakups and four interceptions.

"I don't have to have a board that says this is what you do to be a leader," Olszewski added about the group. "I can just point at them and say, see them, do that, be them. And that is probably the best compliment I can give them."

Augustana opens the 2021 season on Saturday, Sept. 4 with a 1 p.m. contest against Minot State inside Kirkeby-Over Stadium. Season tickets start at $69 and can be purchased at GoAugie.com/Tickets.
