SIOUX FALLS, S.D.-- Augustana senior Jake Lee was selected as the Vikings Preseason Golfer to Watch, the NSIC announced Wednesday morning. The Augustana men's golf team was selected seventh overall in this season's NSIC Preseason Coaches poll.
"Four seniors make it a very exciting year as well as bringing in four new faces," head coach Danny Sinken said. "We are hoping for a breakout year!"
Four new faces were added to the roster in the offseason, along with four seniors that are returning for this season. Seniors Jacob Lee (76.13 strokes per round with two top-10 and two top-five finishes), Alex Stanz (81.47 strokes per round), Sam Sutcliffe (80.3 strokes per round), and Hunter Von Bergen (79.13 strokes per round) are returning to the roster while sophomores Cullen Johnson, Jordan Slagle, and Spencer Wittsruck round out the returning golfers on the roster. Will Allen (Harrisburg, S.D.), Drew Determan (Sioux City, Iowa), Gavin Hibbert (Watertown, S.D.) and Zachary Stanz (Clear Lake, Minn.) will be making their collegiate debuts this season.
Lee returns as Augustana's lead golfer, finishing the spring 2021 season with a fourth place finish at the NSIC Championships, earning All-Tournament honors. He also led the Vikings' stroke average for the season with 76.1.
"Jacob is coming off a fantastic junior year and is looking to have an even better one this year," Sinksen added. His hard work is paying off and we are excited to see what happens."
The Vikings have five events this fall to tune up for the spring season which includes the NSIC Championships. The team begins their season in Bemidji, Minn. at the Bemidji Invitational, hosted by Bemidji State University.
