SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana men's tennis team opened up fall competition last weekend hosting Gustavus Adolphus at the Huether Tennis Centre. Although team results weren't kept, the Vikings had noteworthy performances.
"I was pleased with our performance this weekend," head coach Marc Kurtz said. "We have a very young team and I was able to see how they perform under pressure.
"We had a lot of very close matches, which is exactly what we want at this point in the season."
Coach Kurtz noted his excitement about the play of freshman Henry Dornbusch.
"Dornbusch was outstanding in his singles matches. He played two strong players and was able to keep his composure and pulled off his second match in a third set tie-breaker."
Dornbusch won two matches in singles play against Costa (6-0, 7-5) and Hug (6-4, 7-6, 10-8).
Another highlight of the day came in doubles play with Tyson Cowger and Nicholas LaPoint bested Elofson and Haddorff, 7-5.
Augustana has a break in competition before the ITA regional, taking place in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Oct. 1-3.
