MARSHALL, Minn. – Augustana women's golf won the Mustang Invitational while junior
Molly Stevens set the tournament record with a 2-under-par 142 to win the event by eight strokes.
Augustana entered the second round Sunday leading by 10 strokes. The Vikings then won by 17 strokes with 603 total to second place Gustavus Adolphus.
"I'm so proud of our team to hang onto the lead and not get ahead of themselves, playing shot-by-shot," head coach Coralee Jorgenson said. "Molly played exceptional and has the tournament record for 36 holes at 2-under-par.
"There's always more work to be done. We need to improve on certain shots, so we will get after it this week."
Stevens recorded a 3-under-par 69 on Saturday and followed with a 73 on Sunday to claim the individual title.
Lauren Tims and
Hanna Morin each tied for eighth place with 155 strokes each.
Natalie Young placed 19
th with 158 strokes after a consistent 79 in round one and round two.
Shannon McCormick rounded out the team scoring in a tie for 26
th after firing a 161.
Kait Asklund earned a top-5 finish playing as an individual. She shot a 78 in the opening round and lowered her score by three shots to a 75 in round two for 159 total shots.
Rachel Halvorson also played as an individual shooting a 174 in a tie for 51
st.
Augustana hosts its Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at Elmwood Golf Course. Both days begin at 9 a.m.
