SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana women's tennis doubles team of Florentia Hadjigeorgiou and Senem Ocal have been selected to compete in the 2022 ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia, Thursday through Sunday. The duo is an at-large selection after competing as a semifinalist at the ITA Regionals last month.
The duo is set to face Madison Kane and Elenora Liga of Azusa Pacific on Oct. 13 at 12:30 EST.Â
"I'm so thrilled for Florentia and Senem to be selected to participate in the ITA Cup National Tournament," said head coach Marc Kurtz. "They are one of 16 doubles teams in the nation that will be competing for a national championship.
"This is a prestigious event and this is quite the accomplishment to even be selected. We've had a good week of practice and the ladies are healthy and playing well right now so I'm excited to see how we perform in Georgia."
In the fall season, Augustana competed at a duo of events, beginning with a tournament hosted by Drake Sept. 9-11. The Vikings followed with the ITA Regional in Edmond, Oklahoma, Sept 23-25.
Hajigeorgiou is a former NSIC Player of the Week recipient as well as a two-time member of the NSIC Singles All-Conference First Team and the NSIC Doubles All-Conference First Team. The Deryneia, Cyprus, native went undefeated in 2021 in singles play with a 20-0 record. Hadjigeorgiou recorded a 11-3 record in doubles play while holding an undefeated 5-0 record in NSIC play in 2021Â
Ocal is in her first year at Augustana after graduating from Bahcesehir Okyanus College in Istanbul, Turkey.Â
The ITA Cup takes place in the Rome Tennis Center and is hosted by Berry College in Rome, Georgia. There are 16 doubles teams in the event and the duo of Ocal and Hajigeorgiou are the only student-athletes from the NSIC to be selected.
Previously, the Vikings saw the doubles pair of Laura Arce Vieyra and Gabriela Jancikova qualify for the ITA Cup in doubles action in 2021.
