SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana volleyball team fell to the Wolves of Northern State in three sets (25-19, 25-10, 25-18) in Aberdeen on Saturday night.
The Vikings move to a 13-6 record with a 5-6 record in NSIC play. The Wolves advance to a 11-8 record and are 6-5 in the loop.
Set one was opened by senior Maddy Guetter with a hot kill from the right side to light a fire in the Vikings early. Senior Kate Reimann followed in pursuit, having her own kill straight down the middle to extend the early lead. The Wolves responded back with their own 6-0 run to pull ahead with the lead. AU stayed in the fight until NSU took their final run by capitalizing on AU attack errors to pull away late with the first set.
The Vikings came back for more in set two coming out with two early kills by Reimann and senior Kia Kriener. NSU fought back with four of their own to establish their first lead of the set. The Wolves overpowered the Vikings at the net hitting an efficient .379 over the Vikings -.147 attack percentage. Attack errors were the Vikings demise allowing four in a row to allow the Wolves to reign in set two.
The Wolves kept their momentum rolling into set three opening the set with a 4-0 run. The Vikings responded back with a 4-1 run of their own to tie the score at six. After trading points back-and-forth, the Wolves were able to pull ahead with a mid-set 4-0 run to run away with the set. A final kill straight down the middle by NSU Aby Brooks reigned in the match and set point for the Wolves.
Overall, Augustana recorded 32 kills compared to the Wolves 43 kills while both sides of the net had two aces apiece. Guetter led the way for the Vikings hammering home 11 kills and one block to deliver 12 points. Senior setter Avery Thorson had 24 assists and one kill.
On the defensive side, Bute received 10 digs and delivered one service ace.

The Vikings will host the Beavers of Minot State on Friday and the Marauders of UMary on Saturday. Friday's match is slated for a 6 p.m. start while Saturday's match will begin at 5 p.m.
