Monko Repeats As NSIC Player of the Year; Women’s Tennis Garners Multiple Honors

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – The NSIC Champion Augustana women's tennis team claimed five All-NSIC honors in singles to go with two doubles teams, the NSIC office announced Tuesday. The highlight of the postseason awards was Valeriya Monko repeating as NSIC Player of the Year.

Monko was 10-1 in No. 1 singles, along with going 6-0 in No. 1 doubles pairing with Florentia Hadjigeorgiou. Throughout the season Monko was ranked three weeks in the ITA Top-75 National Singles Ranking with her highest placing coming on March 10, being ranked 50th. 

Additionally, her and No.1 doubles teammate were ranked three weeks in the ITA Top-75 National Doubles rankings with their highest ranking coming on April 28, ranking 29th.

With the NSIC Player of the Year accolade, Monko also was selected as First Team All-Conference in singles play, being joined by Florentia Hadjigeorgiou and Laura Arce Vieyra

Hadjigeorgiou led the league in No. 2 singles with a perfect 11-0 ledger. Monko was the NSIC's best in the No. 1 slot with a record of 10-1 overall.

Gabriela Jancikova and Aleksandra Kistanova were tabbed as Second Team All-Conference in singles play. Jancikova and Kistanova also went undefeated in singles play with 11-0 records, primarily in the No. 4 and No. 5 slot.

Monko and Hadjigeorgiou also earned First Team All-Conference in doubles play for the second straight year, having a 6-0 ledger this season.

Jancikova and Arce Vieyra, playing primarily in No. 2 doubles, joined the No. 1 doubles team, also garnering First Team All-Conference honors after going 11-0 in doubles play this season to lead the league.

Augustana earned the NSIC Regular Season Championship with an 11-0 record in NSIC action and claimed their 11th-straight NSIC Tournament title. The Vikings will await their fate in the central region bracket, with the selection show happening at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening. The regional is slated for Friday and Saturday.
